Robinah Nabbanja's appointment and subsequent address to Parliament marked a historic moment — she became Uganda's fourth Prime Minister under the NRM and the first woman to hold the office from western Uganda. Her address combined personal narrative with policy commitment.
Nabbanja spoke about her background as a nurse and her commitment to improving healthcare service delivery, particularly in rural areas. She outlined the government's priorities under the sixth Parliament and committed to coordinating government programmes with greater efficiency.
Her speech was notable for its acknowledgment of the challenges facing ordinary Ugandans — unemployment, poor service delivery, and infrastructure gaps — and her pledge to hold ministries accountable for results.
Discussion
(4)This speech gave me chills. The line about 'fundamental change' is still relevant today. We need leaders who think beyond elections.
I was there at Kololo that day. The energy was indescribable. A generation that had survived so much finally had hope.
Thank you for sharing this. These living memories are exactly why this archive matters.
It's important we teach these speeches in schools. Our children need to know this history.
